The occurrence is located in a depression just east of the Bellville Slough and is separated from the slough by a raised area of land. The occurrence is surrounded by old fields with weeds and shrubs. Species nearby include Leesia oryzoides, Sagittaria, Phalaris, Typha and Cephalanthus.;The vegetation is not very homogeneous. The plot was placed in the area of most variety. There are several clumps of Sagittaria latifolia, an area of high Juncus effusus concentration, a few scattered Asclepias incarnata plants, a large area of Phalaris arundinacea/Leersia oryzoides and a higher area of the depression that has the greatest variety of of species.
